Drawing inspiration from the tall, thin and brightly coloured tube houses of Hanoi, the VN City identity was crafted for big impact to complement the restaurant's bold vision.
In the sea of Strathfield's Korean restaurants, VN City provided a welcome change of cuisine to Sydney's vibrant Inner West suburb. We were approached to help inject a contemporary spirit to a classic Vietnamese menu, bringing the recipes of its founder's mother to a whole new market.
Leaning into the architectural vernacular of Vietnam's capital city, we selected a typeface that captured the essence of Hanoi's streetscapes. Tall, narrow and full of character, this solution meant that bilingual Vietnamese-English messaging cut through the noise on a busy streetscape.
As part of the rollout we designed menus, posters, merchandise, social media templates and restaurant signage. Framing found photography with shapes derived from Hanoi's distinctive tube houses and layering applications with large, bold typographic statements.
A brand as inviting as it's creators own family home, signed off with a simple message often spoken by their mother: 'Con Ăn Com Chua?' (Have You Eaten Yet?)
Day or night, the door is always open
A straightforward approach to the menus helped make decisions simpler for customers and updating the menu easier for operators. Mouthwatering macro-food photography adding further impact with every menu that landed on customer's tables.
